Otv · &u s-,-~ffgg8 ir?ti ~ ,~.,.orv - -'Orv Students were treated to an unexpected and unwelcome vacation last fall when Burns-ville teachers went on strike for higher wages and better bene-fits. While teachers manned the picket lines, students were pro-vided with an opportunity to take a last shot at summer fun. Most students took advantage of it by getting a few extra hours at work, catching up on their favorite soap operas, or just being outside. Although the strike was a nice extensiori of summer, it affected more than just classes. The athletic , teams were forced to forfeit many con -ference games, ruining their eli-gibility for Lake Conference Titles. Other activities were also postponed or cancelled includ -ing the fall 3-act play and Homecoming, which were delayed 3 weeks. Because of the imminent strike, pre-registration for the winter trimester was conduc ted earlier than expected, catching stu-dents unprepared and confused about which classes to take. In order to make up the days lost during the strike, students were required to attend school dur -ing the MEA convention, sched-uled conference days, and an extra week into the summer. 24 25 Next >
