The Senior Student Council has been very active this year. They super-vised the concession stands and sold tickets for the athletic games. Parents' Night, for the basketball players a nd their parents, was spon-sored by them. On April 4, the Student Council members attended the area division convention at Centennial High School. The largest project taken on by the Student Council was the campaign program. This pro-gram completely revolutionized the voting system for class officers and Student Council members. Mr. Welckle, the Student Council advisor, and the Student Council worked very hard this year to make their pro-grams a success. SEATED: C. Fredrickson, J. Older, J. Nordstrom, E. Egan, N. Kehren, M. Because all phases of the student's school life are evaluated prior to admission into the National Honor Society, membership is the highest distinction which can be attained by a Burnsville stu -dent. Anyone received into the Society, besides maintaining a high scholastic average, must exhibit qualities of leadership, service, and character. Ten students so qualified were initiated into the Society on April 23. To end the year, all members attended the Tyrone Guthrie Theatre's production of HAMLET on May 26. Chicago trips are VERY tiring! The Band has been extremely busy this last year. After receiving an "A" in the state last year, the Band qualified to enter the Aquatennial Parade. There the Band won the high school band trophy. After a summer of car washes, Band Booster activities and pop bottle collections, the Band raised enough money to make the trip to the Chicago Land Music Contest. There the Band received an excellent rating. After the contest, the Band went home, a tired but happy group. 34 FRONT ROW : C. Fosse, R. Soash, B. Lewinski. SECOND ROW: K. Bergh, N. Harris, A. At the Christmas Concert, the Band performed the entire Nutcracker Suite. The Pop Concert in March was one of the best ever given. The program included excerpts from The Music Man and West Side Story. The annual Spring Concert held May 22 was dedicated to the five graduating seniors in the band: Jim Campbell, Ken Klotz, Bob Walters, Paul Williams and Lanny Witt, all charter members of the band. The highlight of the year was the nine-member Percussion Ensemble and its rendition of Three Brothers. Members of this novel group are Paul Williams, Bob Fuglem, Jack Bergmann, Nancy Kehren, Sally Williams, Lanny Witt, Larry Wilke, Sue Williams and Mike Erving. 35 The pause that refreshes! Next >
