Del Stelling photo project 2021

Del Stelling reported the news of Savage, Burnsville and Eagan from 1959 until his retirement in 1994. He was the first president and editor for the Dan Patch Historical Society, where he placed back issues of the Savage Review and his collection of negatives. Del, at the age of 93, died in 2011.

Jack Kennelly volunteers with the Burnsville Historical Society and is equally active with the DPHS uncovering historic Savage photos, including what was then Vine Street (now Ottawa Avenue) in 1914.

After learning we are the home of over 2,000 of Del’s negatives Jack volunteered to select and convert the best into digital images. Del was organized – the envelopes have hand written identification for each negative including: Jens and Jim’s Barbershop (later Razors Edge), Allen’s new ambulance, the first VFW, views of Vine and Minnesota Streets prior to redevelopment, and of course many years of Dan Patch Days. Since Del reported Burnsville and Eagan news as well, this collection includes images we are sharing with their historical societies.
