1970 The Minnesota Valley YMCA is chartered as a non-facility community branch of the Metropolitan Minneapolis YMCA and serves 3,144 people from Bloomington, Burnsville, and Savage.

1978 The number of individuals enrolled in programs more than doubles during the first eight years as Minnesota Valley YMCA programs reach out to 5,000 people.

1979 A generous donation provides land for a YMCA camp in Lakeville. The next year more than 200 campers enjoy a day camp experience at Camp Streefland. By 1992 camp enrollment climbs to 1,250 young people.

1984 The YMCA purchases seven acres on the Ridges Campus at 138th Street and Portland Avenue as the site for a full-service facility.

1992 The Minnesota Valley YMCA office relocates to Burnsville.

1993 The Minnesota Valley YMCA provides programs and services to more than 10,400 people – mostly young people – in the expanding communities of Burnsville, Apple Valley, Lakeville, Prior Lake, Savage, and Shakopee. Its annual budget has grown from $33,831 to more than $500,000.

1994 Capital Campaign is begun to raise $6.3 million to construct, fully equip and staff a new 65,000 square foot facility on the Ridges Campus area in Burnsville.

1995 Over 18,000 persons enrolled in youth and family programs of the Minnesota Valley YMCA.

1996 Groundbreaking ceremony for Minnesota Valley YMCA.

1997 Branch is built and opened for business January 1998.

1998 Grand opening for the Y is held. Hoping to open with 4,000 members and instead opened with 8,000 members

2008 West addition is completed that includes 6,000 square feet. Fitness studio on the second floor and kids stuff space on the 1st floor.

The MInnesota Valley YMCA in Burnsville7 viewsThis house, which became the initial base for the YMCA was built by the Vinge family after they purchased the Ratzlaff farm. The house sat a little south of the hospital emergency room parking lot and and was served by the road between it and the clinic. It originally had access to Nicollet Avenue via a fairly long drive before Nicollet was even black topped. It had 35 E for a backyard when that road was built. It was there until at least 2000.
