Burnsville's first post office opened October 1, 1963 in the Medical Center Pharmacy at Jet Plaza (Later known as Valley Ridge) shopping center. James McCoy was postmaster and Roger Reed manager of the pharmacy.

Mr. McCoy was a veteran of the Civil War, a former member of Company K Tenth Minnesota Regiment. The funeral was held from St. John's Church Savage on Monday at 10 a.m.

Jim McCoy dies 1988James McCoy, 62, of LeSueur and former Savage postmaster died April 20, 1988. He was born January 30, 1926 son of Luke and Sara (Sadie Kearney) McCoy. He served in the US Navy and was Savage postmaster from 1953 - 1966.

Luke McCoy rites Monday Luke McCoy (1888 - 1954) was the son of James and Margaret McCoy born January 28, 1881. In 1924 he married Sarah Kearney. Although the obituary states Savage, they actually lived in Burnsville at the corner of what is now Highway 13 and Nicollet Avenue. (Savage mailing address.)

Margaret McCoy 1934Hastings Gazette January 19, 1934 reports: Mrs. Margaret McCoy, 81, for many years a resident of Burnsville and more recently a resident of Savage died at her home there at 4:00 Friday morning January 5 as a result of pneumonia, which developed following a fall in which she was injured late in December... Born in St. Paul September 12, 1852 Margaret Dalton spent her childhood there.
Following her marriage to James McCoy on October 24, 1876 the couple settled on a farm in Burnsville. They remained there until his death January 23, 1914. After leaving the farm Mrs. McCoy established her residence at Savage and continued to live there until her death....Two sons Henry and Luke of Savage survive...Four daughters and a son preceded her in death - they were Bridget, Margaret, Alice and James.
